Throw both rags away. Where the problem is relatively minor spray some white vinegar onto the windows and leave it for a few minutes as you gather some baking soda onto a clean cloth. Dip a rag into the soapy water and wipe. A variety of cleaners can remove mold but they can bleach or otherwise damage the trim.

Rub a dry mildly abrasive sponge over the mildewed area. No matter if it is a new stain or an old stain you can remove the black mildew and return the wood to its natural beauty. This can then be used to rub away the mold since the baking soda will act as an abrasive and the vinegar will kill the spores.
